The God of Comfort
Bible Study Date: October 4, 2022
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:3-11
Keyword: Comfort
Key Concepts: Suffering; despair and deliverance; Encouragement; God’s Strength
Notes:
1. Paul acknowledges God as the Father of compassion and all comfort. He comforts Christians (the believers) in their
sufferings. Comfort from God does not stop with you/me; its purpose is so that we can also be comforters to others. This
comfort is not to be confused with being comfortable. It refers to encouragement and strengthening.
2. Christ suffered for us. He bore our sins and now as followers of Christ, as Christians, we experience tribulations for His
name’s sake. We do not only share in His sufferings but, we are the benefactors of abundant consolation from Christ.
3. Paul makes us aware that both trials and comfort has purpose. Although he is speaking to the Corinthian Christians, the
principle is still applicable—he/they suffered, were comforted and then strengthened allowing them to preserve unto salvation.
4. We will experience hardships that will make us despair; we will just want to give up, throw in the towel BUT Paul understood,
and we too must understand, things happen to make us depend on God. We realize that our might is not enough but His is.
He is our deliverer. Our hope should rest in Him who is able to raise the dead.

-
How do the key words connect?
2. Do any of these images reflect your life? Your circumstances?
3. How do you personally respond to these images and the trials in your life?
